Have known this (only) recording by Stadler ever since he made the recording many years ago now. It’s fun to hear for we violinists. Lvov is fairly unknown as is Stadler, even though he is now 62 and has toured the world and played with just about every famous musician known to man or beast.

I'm not an expert in music, but to me music matters a lot. The first three movements of Ninth along with Chaconne and the very first part of St. Mathew's by Bach are connected to infinity.

This is one of the most beautiful scores ever written. This is for active listening. It would be an insult to put this on as background music while you do chores. This is just as important as his Symphony. A masterpiece. Korngold was so great !

Ktoś kiedyś napisał o rękopisie Święta Wiosny Strawińskiego: Jest to jeden z najważniejszych dokumentów kulturowych w historii ludzkości.

I discovered Vaughan Williams when was just a boy. And although a male American child getting into classical music may sound atypical, l I was just a typical kid growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, who had musical parents who thus sent me to audition for a boy’s choir position in Vaughan Williams’ Hodie: A Christmas Cantata, which is preformed by a symphony orchestra, a mass choir, boys choir (singing the Biblical narration), along with one bass, one tenor, and one soprano soloist. I found the entire experience absolutely magical. I was mesmerized by all of what was going on around me, and don’t even get me started on the enthrallment of being in the same room as an entire symphony orchestra, and one playing extremely powerful music. at that. I truly believe that we could turn more of our youth into classical music lovers if we gave them the right experiences in their formative years; putting them in the same rooms and concert halls, and subjecting them, in first person, to music that’s energizing, forceful and mighty. Because I was lucky enough to have such an amazing experience, and whereas, other than the focus of the birth of Jesus Christ in the cantata, that musical encounter was centered around Vaughan Williams, he was one of, if not THE earliest composers to which I turned.

Barber is not a composer for whom I have much patience - his works are technically superb and prove traditional tonality remained valid during the latter half of the 20th century but most of his works simply are not my kind of music - however, I make a welcome exception for this piece which is superb! Thank you for making it available. I have already ordered a copy of the CD.

This remains the best recording of one of Tippett's undoubtedly great works, yet the Davis version is out of print. We all know that Tippett's reputation fell into the doldrums not long after his death but Davis did not conduct rubbish and was a huge champion of the composer. Certainly, Tippett's operas after 'King Priam' were embarrassingly 'trendy' while missing the mark by miles and there some were dud works bound up with confused ideologies the composer never intellectually grasped. This could make him tiresome while he chased fame. However, he was a superb composer when he followed his profound musicality and people, now young, will realise what half a generation missed. The 2nd symphony was admittedly difficult to play [see the Boult YTube video] but Tippett accepted tips from his old mentor and, later, Colin Davis. Few know that Boult had young Tippett on the podium with him as a student to help him decide whether to go for conducting or composing. Boult, Britten, Vaughan Williams and Walton all said that he was a composer at heart and they were damned right. Actually, Tippett was a good conductor of small choirs and student orchestras but not at ease with experienced orchestras. He "knew his place". This relatively complex symphony of the mid-1950s manages to sound English and not English in one go and has massive energy within a stock solid architecture and the masterpiece grew out of some effects Tippett had studied in the concerti grossi of Corelli. Oak trees from little acorns grow.
